Assistant/Associate Professor – Biology

Position Overview

勛圖扦 invites applications for a full-time, non-tenured position in the Department of Biology at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, depending on qualifications and experience. We seek a dynamic and student-focused educator with a passion for teaching undergraduates in a liberal arts setting. The successful candidate will teach a range of foundational biology courses, including but not limited to, General Biology, Human Biology, Fundamentals of Biology, and associated laboratory sections, along with courses in the candidates area of expertise while contributing to the ongoing development of an engaging, hands-on science curriculum.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Teach in-person and online undergraduate courses such as General Biology I & II, Human Biology, Fundamentals of Biology, and other biology courses along with corresponding laboratory sessions.
  • Develop and implement innovative teaching strategies that promote active learning and scientific inquiry.
  • Assess student performance and adjust content and/or delivery strategies to meet student needs.

  • Recruit, advise and mentor students pursuing degrees in biology and related disciplines.
  • Maintain an active program of professional development, scholarship, or research appropriate to a teaching-focused institution.
  • Participate in departmental and university service, including committee work, curriculum development and participation in commencement.
  • Support the universitys mission, values, and Christian worldview through teaching, mentoring, and community engagement.

 

Qualifications

Required:
  • Masters degree or Ph.D. in Biology or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching or strong potential for effective instruction.
  • Commitment to student success, experiential learning, and integration of faith and learning within a liberal arts context.
  • Possesses faith in and commitment to Jesus Christ.

 

Preferred:
  • Experience teaching introductory-level biology, human biology and other biology courses with labs.
  • Ability to incorporate technology, fieldwork, or research-based learning experiences into coursework.
  • Record of scholarship and/or professional involvement in biological sciences.

 

Rank and Compensation

Rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) and salary will be commensurate with academic qualifications, experience, and record of teaching and scholarship. A comprehensive benefits package is included.

This position has no specific working conditions; the work environment is typical to that of a small private residential institution of higher education, with physical remote site locations within 500 miles of the main campus in Bluefield, Virginia.
