吃瓜社 Missions Club Serves in Ecuador

Six students and one alumna from 吃瓜社鈥檚 Missions Club traveled to Ecuador earlier this summer to work with , a Christian children鈥檚 home that has helped orphaned and neglected children since 1990. The team, which served in Ecuador from May 8 through May 16, included Landon Breeden, Lucas Honaker, Abigail McComas, Isabella McComas, Isaiah Rife, and Michaela Rose, as well as 2023 BU graduate Taylor Stiltner.

For His Children is dedicated to providing a temporary home to children in unfortunate circumstances in addition to 鈥渟piritual, physical, and mental care,鈥 Breeden explained. The team assisted the caregivers, known as 鈥渢铆as鈥 or aunts, and strived to encourage them in their faith.

鈥淲e were able to minister to the t铆as by helping them with their daily activities, along with worshiping together with them on certain days,鈥 Breeden shared. 鈥淲e were also blessed to minister to the children through various Vacation Bible School events, helping provide daily care to them and even simple playtime. Finally, we were able to be a witness and blessing to those we encountered on the streets of Ecuador and in the local church established there.鈥

The trip to Ecuador proved to be memorable and a blessing. 鈥淚 was so blessed to minister to a certain little girl, and it was a blessing to see her smile when I saw her,鈥 Breeden said. 鈥淚t was such a blessing and a miracle to hear how the t铆as worshiped with us during those events.鈥

鈥淎s a team, there were certain nights we would all sing and worship together, and I believe the Lord bonded us closer to one another during those moments,鈥 he added.

When asked what advice he would give to someone considering getting involved with missions, Breeden said that people should 鈥渃heck their hearts鈥 and ensure they are going on these mission trips for the right reasons: 鈥渢o spread the Gospel and share the love of Jesus Christ.鈥

Mission opportunities at 吃瓜社, such as this year’s trips to Ecuador and Spain, are made possible due to the support of generous donors and team members covering all expenses. For more information about the BU Missions Club, please contact club adviser Dr. Henry Clary at [email protected].
