The path to becoming a physician is a challenging one, but 吃瓜社 alumna Macy McBride has found that 鈥渨ith faith in God, and a strong drive, you can do anything you put your mind to.鈥
Macy came to BU in 2021 after graduating from the nearby Graham High School. As a Ram, she played soccer, served as President of the Missions Club, and studied Biology, concentrating in Pre-Health.
鈥淚 was drawn to study Biology/Pre-Health at BU because of the amazing faculty and the opportunity it gave to have one-on-one instruction in my education,鈥 she said. 鈥淭he professors in this program truly care about the students.鈥
The university invested in her academically, athletically, and spiritually. In addition to the Pre-Health and soccer programs, Macy enjoyed 鈥渋mmersive events like Chapel, Home, and various small groups.鈥
She even found opportunities to grow her faith in the classroom with 鈥渢he Christian perspective being integrated鈥 into her biology classes. The university offered a unique sense of family and community, she found, with faculty and staff who are 鈥渆xtremely supportive, uplifting, and encouraging.鈥
鈥淭he biology department at BU was exceptional during my time there,鈥 Macy added, 鈥渁nd with the full support of the professors, it has thoroughly prepared me for medical school and has allowed for me to thrive in this graduate level of study. Without the help of the wonderful professors and support staff at 吃瓜社, I would not be able to be performing as well as I am.鈥
鈥淚 was most influenced by Dr. Lambert, Dr. Wilson, Mrs. Erika Bell, Mr. Josh Shroyer, and Mr. Jacob Key,鈥 Macy said. 鈥淭hey helped push me to become the best that I could be in the classroom and on the field, and I will be forever grateful for their help in shaping me into the person that I am today.鈥
After graduating from Bluefield in 2025, Macy enrolled in the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree program at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine.
鈥淎COM has an amazing reputation in the medical field, with perfect match rates in recent years and very high board scores,鈥 she explained. 鈥淭hey also have a very strong community, just like BU, that allows for a deep enrichment in the medical school life while also being able to enjoy yourself by participating in activities like intramural sports or other clubs.鈥
Macy is on track to graduate in 4 years and become a practicing physician. Eager to apply problem-solving and critical-thinking skills in a fast-paced environment, she is learning toward becoming an Emergency Room physician. 鈥淗owever, we never know what the future holds!鈥 she shared.
鈥淭his path is a difficult and mentally challenging one to pursue, but if God has called you to it, then don鈥檛 give up!鈥 Macy said. 鈥淲hile it can be hard to navigate what is the best path or what step you should take next, this life experience is a rewarding one that will make all of the hardships worth it!鈥
