Benchmarks & Acceptance to VCOM Online

In a typical year, 50% of students who complete the OMABS program are accepted at a U.S.-based medical school!

Meeting the benchmarks in the MABS program can provide a significant advantage for acceptance into the on one of the four VCOM campuses. The OMABS program can also eliminate the lag or glide year that is mandatory in similar programs.

Benchmarks for VCOM Admissions Interview from the OMABS program

MABS GPA MCAT
3.5-4.0 496 or above

GPA of 3.75 or higher with a MCAT below 496 will be considered on a case-by-case basis

Unlike the MABS program, earning the benchmark GPA and MCAT in OMABS earns the student a standard full-day admissions interview at one of the VCOM campuses. Since online students are not as familiar with a VCOM campus, the interview will give them a chance to experience it.

Each year a significant number of students meet these benchmarks and through the interview gain acceptance to VCOM. In a typical year, this number approaches 35% of the students who complete the program. Another 15% typically gain admission to other D.O. programs. Other students can gain acceptance to pharmacy programs, podiatry programs or other healthcare programs.

Benchmarks are reviewed mid-way through the program, upon completion of the program, and three months after completion of the program. The mid-way review is based upon the OMABS GPA thus far and the student’s most recent MCAT score. The end-of-program benchmarks are based on the cumulative OMABS program GPA and the student’s most recent MCAT. The final benchmark review is based on the cumulative OMABS program GPA and a new MCAT score taken within three months of the last OMABS exam. In each of these scenarios, upon meeting benchmarks an interview will be scheduled as soon as reasonably possible at a VCOM campus. It should be noted that if benchmarks are earned at the end of the Spring Semester (mid-June), the interview will most likely be for the following academic year.

In order to be eligible to gain an interview to VCOM via these benchmarks, a student must complete the OMABS program in no more than two years. Repeated courses automatically negate benchmark eligibility. A student can only earn one VCOM interview via the benchmarks.
